UZH for Researchers

ERC Advanced Grant

Grants for leading researchers

The European Council has authorised the European Commission to negotiate, on behalf of the European Union, a broad package of measures with Switzerland as the basis for future EU-Switzerland relations. In addition, a transitional arrangement was agreed to enable researchers in Switzerland to participate in the Advanced Grants call (ERC News).

The ERC seeks creative proposals that focus on pushing the boundaries of current knowledge. Applicants for the ERC Advanced Grants – called Principal Investigators (PIs) – are expected to be active researchers who have a track-record of significant research achievements in any field of research. The PIs should be exceptional scientists in terms of originality and significance of their researchc ontributions.

ERC Advanced Grants are awarded up to a maximum of € 2,5 million for a period of up to 5 years.

Next deadline: 28 August 2025

Written confirmation from the research institution and budgeting

To submit an application, you need a written confirmation from the research institution.

At UZH, you will receive the confirmation letter via the approval process in AVA, the UZH third-party funding platform.

On AVA you will also find help with budgeting your project.

Please contact the responsible persons at the institute, seminar or clinic at an early stage to discuss aspects of the scientific connection as well as the available resources (premises, infrastructure, etc.).

You can register on AVA with your UZH login (short name and password).

If you do not (yet) have a UZH login, an administrative employee of the host institution can enter the project data in AVA on your behalf and then send you the confirmation letter.

Alternatively, a guest UZH login can be requested via the institute's IT manager.

Once the approval process has been completed, you can download the confirmation letter as a PDF.
