UZH for Researchers

ERC Advanced Grant

Grants for leading researchers

The European Council has authorised the European Commission to negotiate, on behalf of the European Union, a broad package of measures with Switzerland as the basis for future EU-Switzerland relations. In addition, a transitional arrangement was agreed to enable researchers in Switzerland to participate in the Advanced Grants 2024 call (ERC News).

The ERC seeks creative proposals that focus on pushing the boundaries of current knowledge. Applicants for the ERC Advanced Grants – called Principal Investigators (PIs) – are expected to be active researchers who have a track-record of significant research achievements in any field of research. The PIs should be exceptional scientists in terms of originality and significance of their researchc ontributions.

ERC Advanced Grants are awarded up to a maximum of € 2,5 million for a period of up to 5 years.

Deadline: 29 August 2024

Call opens: 29 May 2024

Changes to previous ERC Calls

  • The “high-risk, high-gain” criterion has been deleted as the terms “ambitious”, “creative and original” are better descriptors for the kinds of proposals the ERC would fund.
  • The criterion “development of novel methodologies” has been deleted. According to the ERC, the development of new methodologies is neither necessary nor sufficient to make a proposal excellent, even if it can have a positive effect.
