ERC Grants: Horizon Europe and SNSF transitional measures

Horizon Europe: ERC Grants

The highly competitive grants of the European Research Council (ERC) are aimed at outstanding researchers of all ages, sexes and nationalities. Scientific excellence is the only evaluation criterion.

Starting Grants and Consolidator Grants assist the best starting researchers with excellent ideas to make the transition to independence by providing adequate support at the critical stage when they are setting up or consolidating their own research team or programme. Advanced Grants support outstanding and established research leaders to further expand their work.

SNSF transitional measures

Switzerland is currently considered a non-associated third country when submitting research projects for Horizon Europe and related programs and initiatives. In this status, researchers based in Switzerland have not been able to submit applications in recent years.

The federal government mandated the SNSF to launch the transitional measures listed below. The transitional arrangements for the ERC program year 2025 depend on the outcome of the negotiations with the EU and are not yet known.

Current transitional measures:
SNSF Consolidator Grant
SNSF Starting Grant
SNSF Swiss Postdoctoral Fellowship (SPF)
Swiss Quantum Call
